Nachtus Iluminar
A creature poster created for an original creature of mine after doing initial animal studies, creating creature silhouettes, refining the silhouettes into the most interesting one, and then packaging its concept, design, and illustration all in one poster. Made with Zbrush, Adobe Photoshop, and Canva.
The Process
Initial animal studies in order to understand the skeleton and muscle structure of different animals.
After initial animal studies, creature silhouettes were then created. In the leftmost picture, the initial silhouette started in the top left. From there, proportions were played around little by little as the silhouettes went down. Afterwards, a new column was created to start again from the last silhouette at the bottom of the previous column.
The middle picture contains the five silhouettes in the leftmost column that my art teacher chose which were most interesting. After that, proportions were played around once more with the addition of its color palette in the right side.
Finally, the rightmost picture contains the final four creature silhouettes including their color palette variation.
Once the final four silhouettes were chosen, the third one was chosen to be turned into a creature poster. With the concept of the colorfulness of a peacock and the function of a firefly at night, I changed its color palette to be darker with illuminating lights. To make it easier, a 3D sculpt of the creature was created in Zbrush. As for layout, it was done in Canva.
For the final layout, I added some turns and twists in the creature’s sculpt in Zbrush in order to make it more dynamic. Its skeletal structure has also been placed, and other important information such as its features, female counterpart, and height compared to humans.
