Rusty Oven

A study of a toy oven in which I attempted to replicate the model with an integration of age after being unattended for years.

Made using the 3D software, Autodesk Maya, textured in Adobe Substance Painter, and rendered in Marmoset Toolbag.

The Process

Main reference of the toy oven model. The objective was to replicate the oven’s dimensions and form in Maya, then texture it in any style. As such, I went for the rusty style.

The left picture shows the 3D model made and smoothened out in Autodesk Maya. The oven was made to match the specified proportions in the reference and its topology was properly straightened out in the UV editor. Afterwards, the model was exported to Adobe Substance Painter for texturing materials to match the theme of the oven being left unattended for years. As such, details such as rust, mold, and cracks were integrated.

Final rendering was then done in Marmoset Toolbag to provide a 3-point lighting with the inclusion of ray tracing. The rightmost picture provides the textures of the model such as the base color, roughness, normals, and metal.

360° turntable video of the final model.
